Old Story, New Take.

The hottest news in the music industry these days is that it has finally stopped losing money. Online streaming Digital media is being heralded the savior. The story is already boring me.

Jack Rivlin, with an entertaining almost-still-teenage angst, takes a look back at what went wrong. The lede:

We thought the music industry was dying. So the news that revenues have grown for the first time in 13 years will come as relief to music executives everywhere. They may be enjoying a celebratory line of unethically sourced cocaine this week, but the success has absolutely nothing to do with them.
